If you are a college student shopping for denim that actually lasts, the Madewell student discount is still one of the most reliable perks in fashion retail. As of October 2026, Madewell officially offers 15% off to current college students and teachers through its online verification system, and that discount works alongside the brand’s rolling promo codes and the free Madewell Insider rewards program. This guide breaks down exactly who qualifies, which codes are working right now, and how to time your order for the deepest price.

How the Madewell Student Discount Actually Works

Madewell’s student discount is not a public promo code you can copy from a coupon site. It is an identity verified offer managed through the brand’s own eligibility system (SheerID style verification), and it lives on Madewell’s official promos page as “Teacher & College Student Discount: 15% Off Online & In Stores.”

Who qualifies

Current college students age 16+ enrolled at an accredited US institution
Current teachers, including Teach for America and Donors Choose associates
Verification is done online through Madewell’s eligibility flow, or in store by showing a school ID

The fine print that matters

No promo code is needed. Once verified, the discount applies automatically in your bag.
Your verified status lasts one calendar year, then you renew.
It is US only, and it does not stack with other offers.
Excluded: gift cards, alterations, phone orders, prior purchases, Madewell Archive styles, and third-party brands sold on madewell.com.

Three sister discounts under one roof

The student offer is part of a trio on the official promos page. Teachers get the same 15% under the same program. Military members, first responders, and medical professionals (including nurses) get 15% through the separate Community Heroes program with matching terms. If you qualify for any of these, verify your identity first and let the discount apply itself before hunting for codes.

Codes That Are Working in October 2026

Madewell runs promo codes on a fast cycle, roughly every 7 to 11 days, and October 2026 has been generous. These are the strings with recent community checkout verification (via dontpayfull, SimplyCodes, and couponsolver shoppers in October 2026). Always test at checkout, since Madewell codes can expire mid week.

410106, 410211, 410210, 410195, 410194 — 40% off sitewide. The numeric 40% family, community verified from late September through October 18, 2026. Try one of these first before any aggregator percentage code.
UPGRADE — $50 off full-price jeans, online only. Live mid-October, valid through October 27, 2026 (tied to the Denim Trade Up event below).
KSY30 — 30% off, ends October 29, 2026.
RSELF — 25% off, ends November 21, 2026.
ING20 — 20% off accessories, recently used.
LONGWEEKEND — 30% off fall selects plus an extra 30-50% off sale items, verified October 8-12, 2026. This was a federal holiday weekend code, so treat it as a seasonal pattern rather than an evergreen string.

Confirmed expired in October 2026 (do not bother trying): LASTCHANCE (expired Oct 22), EXTRA50 (Oct 4), W10-Q7R59MB42HQ5ZV (Oct 18), EARLYACCESS (stale since Oct 5), MWAPP (expired Oct 29, tested invalid at checkout Oct 29, 2026). The old UNiDAYS flow is also retired; verification now goes through Madewell’s own system, not UNiDAYS.

Madewell Insider: The Free Loyalty Program

Before you spend a dollar, join Madewell Insider. It is free and it immediately unlocks free standard shipping on every order, plus a $15-off-$150 online welcome offer valid for 7 days after you sign up (official current offer, US only).

The three tiers

Insider ($0+ spend): free standard shipping on all orders, $25 birthday discount plus a $15 half-birthday discount, free in-store denim hemming, Insider Event access.
Star ($500+/year): everything above, plus triple point days, early access to drops and promos, gifts with purchase twice a year, and an annual tote.
Icon ($1,000+/year): everything above, plus free expedited shipping, free returns, invite-only events, and 50% off one item as a tier celebration gift.

Points earn at 1 point per $1 (double on jeans), and $10 in rewards unlocks every 250 points. Checkout sequencing matters: the promo code applies first, then your Insider dollar rewards, so watch the total update before spending points.

Sale Calendar: When Madewell Is Cheapest

Insider Events (March + September): members only, up to about 25% sitewide. The best planned discount windows of the year.
Black Friday week: the deepest reliable discount. 2025 brought 40% off sitewide, and Cyber Monday matched at 40% off. If you can wait, this is the week to build a cart.
Friends & Family sales: 20-30% off, a few times a year, announced through email and Insider channels.
Federal holiday weekend codes: the October 2026 LONGWEEKEND pattern shows how these arrive, with stackable extra-percentage sale offers.
Denim Trade Up (mid-October 2026): trade in old jeans and get $50 off full-price denim. The UPGRADE code above paired with this event through October 27, 2026.
End-of-season clearance: late December/January and late June/early July, up to 60-85% off. Extra-percentage sale events recur roughly monthly, so a 30-50% stack is almost always around the corner.

Welcome Offer, Shipping & Returns

The official current welcome offer is $15 off a $150+ online order when you join Madewell Insider, valid 7 days from online sign-up, one-time per customer, US only. Aggregators also claim a 15% first-order offer and a $10 SMS signup perk; treat those as verify-at-checkout until Madewell confirms them on its own page.

Shipping: Insider members get free standard shipping on all orders with no minimum. Non-members get free standard shipping on orders over $50.

Returns: 30 days, unworn with tags on, in store or online. Mail returns use a prepaid label with $7.50 deducted from the refund (free for Icon members). Final sale, monogrammed, vintage, and altered items are excluded.

6 Smart Shopping Tips for Madewell

Verify your identity before you browse. Join Madewell Insider and complete the student or teacher verification first, so every discount is in place before you build a cart.
Try the numeric 40% codes first. The 410106 family was the most consistently verified set through mid-October 2026; one attempt there beats hunting through masked aggregator strings.
Sequence your savings at checkout. Enter the promo code, let the total update, then apply Insider dollar rewards on top.
Time big denim buys around Denim Trade Up. $50 off full-price jeans for traded-in pairs beats most percentage codes on premium denim.
Never pay full price in the wrong week. Codes refresh every 7 to 11 days and extra-percentage sale events recur monthly. If nothing stacks this week, waiting two weeks usually fixes it.
Check the extra-percentage sale section first. The recurring extra 30-50% off sale events stack on already reduced prices, which is how the deepest Madewell discounts actually happen.
